The Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid has reopened following an extensive renovation focus on the revival of the 110-year-old property’s Belle Époque character. Spanish architect Rafael de La-Hoz spearheaded the hotel’s historical revitalization, while French design practice Gilles & Boissier led the interior refresh.

“We have not added new architecture to the renovated Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid—all we did was turn on the lights, so to speak, and appreciate what was already there,” de La-Hoz explains. “It may seem like a small thing, but it really opened our eyes to the possibilities.”

The reopening also heralds the debut of the Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid’s first wellness concept. The intimate spa retreat comprises a heated indoor swimming pool, a vitality pool, experience showers, a steam room, and a contemporary fitness center. Five F&B options—all overseen by three Michelin-starred chef Quique Dacosta—are also featured onsite, including the Palm Court, which is housed under a glass canopy; cocktail venue Pictura; and the alfresco El Jardín del Ritz.

A chic, contemporary ambiance characterizes the 153 updated accommodations, including 53 suites, to appeal to local and international guests alike.
