Villa Dagmar Hotel Arrives in Stockholm

Boutique concept Villa Dagmar has opened in Stockholm as the sister property to luxury property Hotel Diplomat. Conceived as an urban villa, the new hotel occupies a historic Art Nouveau volume located beside the recently renovated Östermalmshallen food market. An eclectic European visual identity was crafted by Anna Cappelen, design architect Per Öberg, and interior designer Helena Belfrage to inspire guests to return.

“It has been an intensive and enlightening project where we have contributed our collective experience from previous restorations and hotel projects,” Öberg says. “The hotel consists of several culturally and historically protected buildings of different characters, which has required a joint effort to succeed in creating the hotel’s physical and visual flows. We have created a wonderful place—a place you want to return to.”

A striking glass ceiling, inspired by the design of the British Museum, canopies the hotel’s courtyard and garden, forming the nucleus of the site. In addition to a flower shop, a restaurant and wine bar anchor the courtyard with dark wood furniture and wrought iron detailing. Amenities like the fitness center and spa are accessible via the courtyard as well.

The warm lobby is conceived to promote informal interaction, enlivening with the liminal space with a modern aesthetic. As for the guestrooms and suites, all 70 accommodations are outfitted with classic Swedish and Italian furniture designs to further permeate a residential-style warmth. The chambers are distinguished with varying elements—like wallpaper or painted walls—as well as soft carpeting or wood floors. Balconies maximize views of either Villa Dagmar’s courtyard or the rooftops of the neighborhood to instill a sense of place.
