New York-based homewares brand Piaule has announced the launch of a new boutique hotel and spa experience embedded in the forests of upstate New York. Set across 50 acres of woodland between Hudson and Hunter Mountain in New York, Piaule Catskill occupies a minimal footprint and maintains distance from the outside world to establish authentic serenity. Piaule founders Nolan McHugh and Trevor Briggs partnered with Garrison Architects on the design of the secluded getaway to inspire powerful humility and appreciation for nature through an immersive guest experience.

“We wanted to take the philosophy and values behind Piaule and apply them to an experience that was more immersive than selling a product,” McHugh and Briggs said in a statement. “In the Hudson Valley, we saw the need for a hospitality experience that closely blended design, architecture, and nature, especially in a region that is home to such spectacular landscapes. The design, service, and amenities are all a complement to the setting and the focus is on, above all else, connecting with nature.”

A main house anchors the property, welcoming visitors with check-in, a retail gallery, and an all-day restaurant flooded with natural light via floor-to-ceiling windows. White oak walls and locally sourced bluestone floors compose the backdrop for handcrafted furniture throughout the interior as well. Sunken and concealed within the hillside, the spa and wellness facility houses a relaxation area and tearoom alongside private treatment rooms and a movement studio dedicated to yoga, sound baths, meditation, and reiki. A steam room wrapped in bluestone and an oversized sauna adorned with cedar are also featured in addition to a cold plunge pool and an outdoor swimming pool.

Ranging from 375 to 975 square feet, 24 guest cabins are outfitted with floor-to-ceiling glass doors that immerse visitors in the setting. Separate living rooms and private balconies deepen this bond with nature in select rooms, while sensuous and restrained furnishings—from handcrafted solid oak beds and accent tables to sconces and ceramics made by artisan Kati von Lehman—populate each accommodation. En-suite bathrooms are lined with heated stone floors as well.
