The Nambiti Private Game Reserve in South Africa will soon be more accessible and intimate than ever before, thanks to the forthcoming launch of the Homestead. Slated to open in early 2022, the lodge will be distinguished by an eco-consciousness that informs its programming as well as its design by South African practices Dean Jay Architects and Egg Designs. “We want guests to feel the historical influence that serves as the basis of the property while discovering the accented modern, ultra-luxe, yet sustainable elements throughout,” says Egg Designs co-owner Roche Dry.

An entry node that hosts the reception lounge and restaurant will serve as a key focal point of the main lodge. Ironstone, dolerite, and aged kiaat floors will compose the Homestead’s natural and sustainable materiality, organically bonding the property with its surroundings. Grass sourced from the nearby grasslands will be planted upon the roof, while a 590-foot-long linear volume will link the Homestead to a natural escarpment and lake. A world-class spa, fitness center, communal pool, F&B options, and meeting and event space will be housed onsite as well.

Half of the Homestead’s 12 luxury lodges will be equipped for couples and solo travelers and boast individual infinity pools, while the remaining six will be available for booking privately or connected to one another to accommodate groups. Accommodations will also be punctuated by an artful lighting installation overhead that depicts abstractions of the cloud formations of Drakenberg in nearby Lesotho. “The undulating gold clouds,” Dry says, “form a sensual spine juxtaposing the linear exterior with the soft curvaceous interior of the Homestead to frame the unexpected abstract design of the property.”
