Marriott International has unveiled its maiden JW Marriott outpost in North Carolina with the launch of JW Marriott Charlotte. Located in the Uptown neighborhood, the 381-room luxury hotel draws inspiration from the city’s namesake, Queen Charlotte. A design by international firm HKS pays homage to Charlotte’s muse as well as the hotel’s location at the intersection of two historic Native American trade routes.

“We aimed for the JW Marriott to honor that rich historical fabric by prioritizing active uses at each of its public faces, including outdoor spaces facing the new public plaza,” says Jeremy Arianpour, vice president and project manager for HKS. “Our hope is that this approach will allow the JW Marriott to enhance the public realm and serve as a link to the numerous neighboring commercial, entertainment, and cultural institutions in Uptown Charlotte.”

High-performance glazing throughout the property ensures a seamless connection between guests and the surrounding area. Abundant natural light and city views punctuate public spaces, which are also equipped with a unitized curtain wall system. Architectural precast concrete panels and accents of silver metal panels form a backdrop that’s complemented by a modern palette of gray and silver. Sumptuous textiles, inspired by the regal clothing of Queen Charlotte, line the interior along with ornate details like a custom lobby chandelier and a monumental stairway.

In addition to a spa, fitness center, and 22,000 square feet of meeting space, a trio of F&B are included among the onsite amenities. Dean’s Italian Steakhouse channels a modern, rustic reinterpretation of classic dining room aesthetics, while Caroline’s Oyster Bar is anchored by a 360-degree centerpiece bar and an eight-seat Carolina-style raw oyster bar. Atop the JW Charlotte’s fifth floor, a lush botanical paradise awaits at Aura Rooftop’s bar and pool as well.
