A lively new Eastern Mediterranean concept has arrived on Manhattan’s West Side. Zou Zou’s, located within the recently unveiled Manhattan West development, features a modern design by AvroKO that pays homage to the architecture and culture of the Levant region.

“The design of Zou Zou’s channels the confluence of style—a shared design language—that exists amongst the various cultures that the restaurant’s cuisine celebrates,” says AvroKO cofounder and partner Adam Farmerie. “We’re history nerds and believe that channeling the ideas of the past allows people to connect with the spaces we design for the future in subliminal and subconscious ways. This is how we want guests to feel—connected to the past, connected to ideas and connected to their humanity, their place in both the lineage of history and their participation in writing the history of the future.”

Contrasting patterns and textures define the 75-seat restaurant, with vibrant blue and green tiling installed alongside dark woods below soaring, arched ceilings clad with wood paneling. Off-white plaster serves as the backdrop for wrought iron light fixtures as well. An open kitchen anchored by a wood-fired oven acts the nucleus of Zou Zou’s as it spans one side of the interior, mirrored by the bar on the opposite side of the space.
