The Luxury Collection kicks off the new year with the launch of two properties: the Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart in Tasmania and Santo Mauro, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Madrid. The hotels mark the brand’s debut in Australia and the Spanish capital, respectively.

Centrally located in the restored heritage section of Parliament Square, the elegant Tasman immerses guests in its historic urban setting. The hotel occupies a former government building, which comprises Georgian, Art Deco, and contemporary vernaculars, revitalized by Australian architect Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp and Sydney-based firm Joseph Pang Design Consultants. Original elements, including century-old wood planks and sandstone walls, were restored and numerous materials were recycled. A curated selection of artwork by local artists further evokes a unique sense of place. “The interior design of the Tasman will stimulate guests’ interest and curiosity on the elements they see and touch in the hotel,” says Joseph Pang Design director Joseph Pang. “This process of exploration will definitely lead the guests to find out more about the history of the Tasman and the city of Hobart, creating a unique journey for hotel guests rather than just another luxury hotel on their lists.”

A trio of F&B spaces are housed onsite, including signature restaurant Peppina, craft cocktail bar Mary Mary, and the residential-style Deco Lounge, which overlooks Parliament Square. More than 8,200 square feet of meeting and event space and a 24-hour fitness center round out the amenities. Each of the 152 guestrooms and suites further convey the captivating architectural legacy of the site, blending modern craftsmanship with original details. The luxe St. David’s Park suite, for instance, boasts a restored fireplace and a handcrafted Tasmanian blackwood timber bath, while the rooftop Aurora suite is equipped with an expansive entertainment terrace and panoramic views.

Santo Mauro has opened in the traditional aristocratic district of Camberí. The property spans three buildings surrounded by pristine gardens and centuries-old chestnut trees, and boasts ornate interiors reinvigorated by Spanish designer Lorenzo Castillo. The upgrade channels the site’s history as a noble residence with a sense of opulence permeating public and private areas. “I was mindful that I wanted to keep the incredible authenticity intact and pure. This hotel exemplifies what it means to be custom made or ‘haute couture’—every space and every piece of furniture from the paintings, mirrors, and frames has been created and crafted with the highest standards of quality,” Castillo says. “My design style is to make each space feel personal, cozy, and aristocratic.”

A neutral palette of earthy tones harmonizes with a traditional warmth and modern touches. Eras seamlessly mix in spaces like the Georgian English Library, which is equipped with warm oak shelves and vibrant green and gold velvets, and the Chinese Lounge, where wallcoverings and fabrics showcase rich chinoiserie patterns.

Amenities, including a pair of F&B concepts and an indoor pool, will be joined by a spa, fitness center, and an indoor-outdoor event space during the property’s next renovation phase this summer. Santo Mauro’s posh narrative peaks in the 49 guestrooms, which includes 10 suites. Upholstered velvet wallcoverings, royal canopy beds, and antique furniture invite guests to feel like nobles.
