Remote-first hospitality tech company proves company culture doesn’t have to be built in an office

(SAN DIEGO) — Cloudbeds, the hospitality industry’s fastest-growing technology provider, announced it has been selected by Forbes as one of America’s Best Startup Employers of 2022. The annual list recognizes the top 500 companies in the United States based on employer reputation, employee satisfaction and growth. This is the remote-first company’s second consecutive year on the list.

“Our number one responsibility as leaders is to build environments where people can be successful,” said Adam Harris, CEO and co-founder of Cloudbeds. “Our journey has been fueled by very happy and driven employees who’ve been put front and center by our leadership. If our people are prioritized every step of the way, the company and our customers benefit tremendously.”

Founded in 2012, the remote-first company employs nearly 700 employees across 40 countries. In the past year, the company grew its global workforce by 70% with more than 300 new hires across all departments. This recognition adds to the company’s expanding list of awards for its emphasis on its employee experience and company culture, including Built In’s Best Remote-First Companies to Work for in 2022 and Deloitte’s 2021 Technology Fast 500, among others.

The list was determined through a partnership with leading market research firm Statista to identify and evaluate 2,500 U.S. businesses with at least 50 employees founded between 2012 and 2019. Each company was evaluated based on three key factors: employee satisfaction, employer reputation and company growth. The final list ranked the top 500 companies based on over eight million data points.

Cloudbeds is currently working to fill more than 90 roles across all departments. Interested candidates can meet the team at San Diego’s first annual Innovation Day at Petco Park on April 28 from 4 - 8 p.m. PT.

To be selected for CPH status, the Chinese travel services provider requires hotels to offer an introduction to the hotel and its facilities in simplified Mandarin, as well as providing assistance in spoken Mandarin. Hotels must also enable guests to settle their bill using Union Pay.

Other requirements include serving Chinese dishes for breakfast, such as congee and steamed buns, providing a kettle and complimentary tea in every room, as well as free Wi-Fi. Each property must also achieve a guest rating above 3.8 on the Ctrip platform.

Thanks to the commendation, Swiss-Belhotel International properties in Indonesia will now be filtered on Ctrip search pages and included in CPH results. Specially designed online icons highlighting stays with outstanding facilities and services for Chinese guests will distinguish selected properties from other hotels. Each awarded hotel can also display a certificate to show its qualification as part of the CPH programme.

According to Indonesia’s Central Bureau of Statistics, since 2016, more Chinese tourists have visited Indonesia than any other country in the Southeast Asia region with some 1.43 million trips made in that same year. In 2017, Bali alone welcomed more than a million Chinese visitors in the first eight months of the year, a hike of 58% compared to 2016.

Mr Gavin M Faull, Chairman and CEO of Swiss-Belhotel International is clear about the importance of accommodating Chinese guests in Indonesia as part of the brand’s growth strategy.

“By 2019, close to half of all visitors to Indonesia are predicted to arrive from China, so its vital that we not only embrace the culture and customs of the destinations where we have a presence, but also take a wider, international approach and remain conscious of where our guests are coming from,” he said.

“Swiss-Belhotel International is expanding fast in Indonesia, which means welcoming Chinese guests is an integral part of our success,” he added.

As the largest archipelago in the world, Indonesia offers a stunning, varied landscape with divine beaches, world-class surfing and diving, tropical rainforest adventures and picturesque paddy fields. The Hotelier Awards 2018, the region’s leading annual independent awards recognising the finest talents in the hotel industry is currently accepting applications for the Asia competition (excluding Greater China) until the 16th February. The 2018 winners will be announced during a gala dinner ceremony in Singapore on the 23rd May.

The Awards were launched in China in 2014 off the back of explosive growth in the hospitality industry. The platform is unique and independently run, celebrating the dedicated individuals of the hotel industry, rather than just focusing on the hotel properties themselves.

It is an opportunity to honour the outstanding achievements of these individuals, from General Managers, to front line staff who are the best in their field and often fly under the radar or shy away from the limelight. Hotels put forward their finest staff and the nominations are then put to the judging panel of global experts from the travel and hospitality industry.

This year’s judging panel of global experts includes the following: Jenny Soo, Head of Workplace Experience APAC at Jones Lang LaSalle Property Consultants Pte. Alison Gilmore the Portfolio Director of International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM), Worldwide and Christophe Laurent Values Ambassador at Ecole Hôtelière De Lausanne (EHL).

Now in it’s fifth year, the Awards will be split into two competitions between The Hotelier Awards Asia and The Hotelier Awards Greater China. The Asia platform welcomes applications from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Japan & South Korea. Bill Bensley-designed hotel honoured at World Travel Awards: Asia & Australasia 2017

Phu Quoc, 8 June 2017 – JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay has picked up the prized title of Asia’s Leading New Resort at the 24th Annual World Travel Awards™ Asia & Australasia. The Bill Bensley-designed luxury resort, inspired by the legend of a fictional former university for French colonists, saw off stiff competition to claim the prestigious accolade at a glittering ceremony in Shanghai on Sunday 4th June.

“We’re delighted to be named Asia’s Leading New Resort, and in particular to be recognized in this way by our colleagues in the hospitality industry,” said Ty Collins, General Manager of JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay. “The opening of the hotel marks the birth of luxury hospitality in Phu Quoc, and has established a benchmark of excellence and quality for future Marriott developments throughout Asia.”

Regarded as the “Oscars” of the travel industry, the World Travel Awards™ recipients are selected by travel industry professionals from over 140 countries who cast more than a million votes over the duration of the campaign. Every year, regional ceremonies are held in Europe, the Middle East, Africa & the Indian Ocean, South & Central America, North America & the Caribbean and Asia & Australasia, with the successors competing head-to-head to determine who will triumph as the ultimate global category victor in World Travel Awards™ finale, which will take place at the end of the year.

The first international luxury hotel brand on Vietnam’s ‘pearl island’, JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay opened its doors to the public on 25th January 2017. The resort is devoted to JW Marriott’s philosophy of delivering enriching experiences and intuitive service, leaving guests richer than when they arrived.

Bill Bensley’s design narrative for the site was a fictional academy of learning, inspired by French naturalist Jean Baptiste Lamarck. The architecture of the hotel reflects early 20th Century style and embraces the traditions of French colonial architecture. Every detail, down to the decorative elements and associates’ uniforms, have been carefully crafted and considered by Bensley to reinforce the resort’s overarching theme.

Featuring 244 beautifully appointed rooms, suites, and stand-alone villas, JW Marriott Phu Quoc enjoys a spectacular, unrivalled location on Bai Khem with its own pristine white sand beach, overlooking the rugged Vietnamese coastline and neighbouring islands.
