Fivelements Retreat Bali introduces an array of Group and Executive Performance Retreats
Foster new skills with the Ubud sanctuary’s transformative programs for individuals and teams.

Reset and rejuvenate with the series of Group and Executive Retreats recently introduced to Ubud’s Fivelements Retreat. The Balinese wellness sanctuary, nestled in the jungle alongside the flowing Ayung River, has long been lauded for its transformative programs and ample amenities, so much so that it was recently named by the 2020 Haute Grandeur Global Excellence Awards as Best Romantic Hotel on a Global level, Best Boutique Hotel in Indonesia, Best Culinary Experience in Indonesia, and Best Eco Friendly Hotel in Indonesia.

Now Fivelements’ reputation is only set to grow courtesy of the arrival of its latest transformative programs, available for both individuals and groups. Thanks to the recent expansion of the resort space and the introduction of Hillside Pool suites, the Ubud local is now able to welcome an increased number of guests to its regular gatherings, which promise a place to unwind and escape the daily grind.

The focus of each Group Retreat will rotate monthly, commencing the first Monday of every month and running the week through. Entwined in traditional Balinese holistic philosophies, there are three signature retreats to choose from, ranging from a physical to a spiritual awakening. Guests can choose to focus on their physical prowess with the Health and Fitness Retreat, integrating morning yoga and strength exercises aplenty. Or the purification of the soul offered by the Spiritual Healing program, a retreat integrating meditation, mindfulness, daily yoga and a visit to the Holy Spring water in an effort to refresh body and mind. Not forgetting the chance to learn to prepare specialty plant-based cuisine with the Culinary Detox Retreat, among more.

Group Retreats will launch in early 2021, joining the already welcomed Executive Performance Retreats, a transformative program born specifically to cater to corporate entities. Attendees to the Executive Retreats are given an opportunity to learn new skills to use in both the boardroom and beyond as a part of a 3-day program. Sharpen your skills when it comes to focus, resilience and awareness, as well as strengthening existing bonds of teamwork among your colleagues.

The Executive Performance Retreats interweave the core values of Fivelements with the local traditions of Bali across its program. Attendees will be able to enjoy the famed Mount Batur sunrise hike, a Pranayama breathwork session, a sound bath session, two tension and trauma release sessions, and a Balinese Agni Hotra Fire Ceremony among other equally health-focused elements.

Fivelements Retreat Bali General Manager John T G Nielsen says of both the Group and Executive Retreats; “With the recent opening of the Hillside pool suites that feature super-King and twin-beds options, a natural evolution was to expand the original bespoke private retreats and offer new boutique group-focused retreats that utilise the new event space Mandala Ayung, but still maintain the private feel of the retreat. We are able to offer to the corporate market Executive Performance retreats and monthly themed boutique retreats.

“These retreats continue to build on the bespoke private retreats that we have always been so well known for but offers now an opportunity for guests to experience a retreat with their friends or business colleagues and continue their journey of life transformation.”

Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel - Private sacred inking sessions by Bangkok’s revered bamboo tattoo master

Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, the luxury urban retreat in the heart of one of the world’s most enigmatic capital cities, offers private sacred tattoo sessions by the City of Angels’ most famous Sak Yant master, Ajarn Neng Onnut. In recent years the practise has become increasingly popular with foreign tourists to Thailand, thanks in part to Ajarn Neng who inked Sak Yant tattoos on a host of Hollywood actors and A-listers.

Introducing a new seaside yoga bale, sound healing and more.

While a devotion to luxury has long been at the forefront of Uluwatu’s Karma Kandara, a passion for wellness has come a close second. 2020 cements its dedication to wellbeing with a series of new offerings at the Bukit Peninsula resort.

A new beachside yoga bale has just been unveiled - an open-air meditative space which will become home to a series of new yoga and holistic health-focused offerings for both in-house guests and visitors, with the crystal-clear waters of Uluwatu within arm’s reach. A team of local teachers, handpicked by Spa & Wellness Curator and Chair of Sustainability for the Karma Group, Judy Chapman and the spa team, lead classes of Ocean Yoga Flow here twice a week, accompanied by 180-degree uninterrupted views of the Indian ocean. This isn’t the only yoga class on offer at Karma Kandara - the resort’s yoga ambassador Ola Lirka visits regularly to lead twice-daily Yoga, Rise & Shine, HIT Yoga, Yin Yoga, Mother and Daughter classes and more.

Joining Ocean Yoga Flow in the bale is a series of more strenuous offerings for those with energy to burn. Core Balance by the Sea has just been introduced - a Pilates-infused class strengthening the core, improving posture, balance and self-confidence. Those more tempted by healing treatments will be able to enjoy the addition of Seaside Sound Healing Journey, a therapy used to gently lull you into a meditation for true restoration. Teacher Liz Tara Sundri Kaur incorporates singing bowls, gongs, drums and instruments in her soothing sessions, alongside live chanting of mantras.

Each offering is led by an experienced practitioner, hand-selected for their unrivalled understanding of the field. “‘We’ve collaborated with the island’s best Balinese yoga and practitioner experts – they are all exceptional in their craft,” explains Judy of the new teaching staff that form the wellness offerings for Karma Kandara in 2020.

Gourmet Asian creations are a feature of the dining experience on the boat

Heritage Line to Chart New Waters on Upper Mekong
Luxury cruise operator schedules September launch for latest vessel
LUANG PRABANG, LAOS (Feb. 12, 2020) — One of Southeast Asia’s leading boutique cruise operators Heritage Line, is making progress on its sumptuous new ten-berth ship Anouvong, which will be the first luxury boat to ply the upper-Mekong river in Laos upon its launch later this year.
“We are well on course to complete Anouvong in good time,” said Andreas Schroetter, Heritage Line’s director of sales and marketing. “It’s always a really exciting feeling watching the team at the shipyard guiding our boats to completion, and this is no exception. It makes it even more thrilling when you know that this particular ship will be such a game-changer when it comes to cruise journeys on the upper reaches of the Mekong River.”
Winding its way from the mysterious Golden Triangle at the Thailand/Laos border in the northwest, through the royal city of Luang Prabang and down to the Lao capital, Vientiane, the boat, with its eight spacious staterooms and two luxurious suites, will plot a course through some of the planet’s most spectacular riverine territory.
The cruise operator offers two journeys. The shorter sailing travels from Luang Prabang to the town of Huay Xai on the Laos/Thailand border (or vice versa) over three days. A longer journey unfolds over 7 or 9 nights and charts a course between the Laos/Thailand border at Huay Xai and Vientiane.
The shorter trip offers spectacular scenery, a trip to the village of Huay Palang to meet ethnic Khmu tribes and other highlights such as Pak Ou Caves, which is home to 4000 sacred Buddhist statues.
The longer alternative embraces sight-seeing along remote river areas and various activities such as kayaking through calm, shallow stretches and a gourmet banquet on a river sandbank. The longer journey is also inclusive of a full discovery of Luang Prabang at the mid-point of the journey.
It’s fair to say that the boat – which is named after the last Lao king – will be something of a pioneer. But then that’s nothing new for Heritage Line, an operator that is used to charting fresh horizons on Asia’s waterways and doing it in style.
The use of small vessels offers a sense of intimacy unmatched by operators who use bigger boats. This exclusivity, meanwhile, is enhanced by an array of enticing extras. Each of Heritage Line’s boats has been crafted to the very highest specifications, with inimitable décor and outfitting ensuring the ultimate in onboard luxury for guests.
Anouvong stays true to this philosophy. Its design aesthetic combines traditional Lao design with French colonial elegance.
The Deluxe and Deluxe Executive rooms (20sqm) feature French balconies and occupy both the main and upper (terrace) decks, with four rooms on each level. The two Signature Suites are located at the front of the main deck and each boast 30sqm of floor space. Both Signature Suites have their own private balcony as well as a spacious bathroom with Jacuzzi.
The terrace deck is the highlight of the vessel’s public spaces and is also conveniently connected to the comfortable, laid-back and air-conditioned café-bar lounge. From the shaded sun beds, passengers have widescreen views of the passing river landscapes and local life onshore. In Anouvong’s “Bodhi Spa”, treatments for singles and couples are offered throughout the day. The exquisite De-Lagree Dining Hall, meanwhile, offers gourmet dining with local delicacies and international favorites in a venue flanked by expansive panels on both sides.
Anouvong is expected to begin sailings on 29 September 2020. It is now open for bookings over the next few months through any travel agents or directly with Heritage Line. For bookings made before March 31, there is currently a 10% discount on the 3-night journey.
Renowned as one of Asia’s most singular operators, Heritage Line has become legendary among cruise connoisseurs. Its reputation is founded on a range of factors. Whereas many other operators utilize bigger boats, Heritage Line’s collection of distinctive vessels are smaller in scale, ensuring an intimacy that helps to forge bonds, nourish friendships and create unforgettable moments.
Heritage Line Anouvong plots a course along the Mekong River in central and northern Laos

Guests can watch the scenery drift by from the balcony in their exquisite room or suite

Notable excursions include an opportunity to discover Luang Prabang, the beguiling former royal capital of Laos

Sound baths, facial yoga and retreats among more have arrived at the luxe group’s trio of Indonesian resorts. Karma Group has amassed a reputation for the luxury amenities available at its resorts, but just as important to the famed hotel group’s dedication to opulence is its focus on wellbeing. Health and wellness remain integral to Karma Group, particularly across its three Indonesian resorts where a burgeoning array of healing treatments continue to grow on offer via Karma Spa.

Taking inspiration from the spa trends sweeping the globe, Karma Spa has introduced a number of new offerings intended to heal the body and spirit. Sound baths are now incorporated into the resort’s treatment list, having been combined alongside most massages as well as the monthly Full Moon Yoga held at Uluwatu’s Karma Kandara. Think a concoction of seaside sound bath chanting performed alongside a series of different yoga poses. “Sound is the new massage,” explains Judy Chapman, Karma’s Spa & Wellness Curator of the booming sound healing trend. Balinese Reiki, intuitive tarot readings and acupuncture will shortly also be welcomed across both of Karma’s Balinese resorts, performed by an expert in the field.

A special new detox retreat has also joined the treatment array at Karma Jimbaran. The four-day retreat is designed to gently cleanse the body of mental clutter and rest the body with specialised yoga, massage, and niche treatments like deep tissue and IV infusion therapies.

For those who like something a little more intense, ‘Train Like An Athlete’ have arrived in the fitness studio, with a series of ambassador-led workouts. This will join the burgeoning social workouts which encourage guests to band together; at Karma Kandara guests are encouraged to join the hotel twice a week to walk up and down the 350 steps to Karma Beach. Karma has also collaborated with multi-disciplinary DJ Vanessa Holiday leading ‘Yin Yoga and Seaside Soundbaths, the first of these will be held at our Gili Meno resort.

Vanessa leads ocean flow yoga followed by a sacred sound bath, which sees chanting mingle with crystal singing bowls, Tibetan Bowls, Native American Flute, Gongs and Drums - all designed to nourish and replenish the body, physically and mentally. Guests after something a little less physical will find it with the arrival of the Karma Yoga Facial, which blends deep facial massage release, with lymphatic drainage and ayurvedic marma-point therapy in the spa. This will roll out across the Indonesian Karmas and Australia’s Karma Rottnest alike, joining the brand new Infrared Sauna Suite, which will shortly launch Down Under.

Proving increasingly popular to guests eager to detoxify, the Infrared Sauna Suite is available for use alongside a sauna ritual menu, which sees it form a part of a more indulgent treatment which can vary from magnesium salt scrubs to reflexology.

HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam (Sept. 10, 2019) - As Vietnam’s pioneering all-spa-inclusive hospitality brand Fusion continues to grow, they’ve created a new role -- group spa director -- to meet the wellness demand. Spa expert, Aye Mon, has taken on the role and will oversee Fusion’s wellness concept as well as help lead their expansion throughout Vietnam.

In a move up the ladder, Aye Mon’s new role will see her working closely with Fusion’s resort and spa managers to develop the brand’s unique all-spa-inclusive concept that sits at the heart of its wellness ethos.

Aye Mon first joined the group in 2016 as spa director for their Cam Ranh destination, taking responsibility for the resort spa’s beauty, health and wellness programmes, and guiding a team of therapists and treatment specialists to establish it as a leading spa in the region. She was then promoted to executive assistant manager at Fusion Resort Cam Ranh, and was responsible for the resort’s daily operations.

Boasting more than a decade of industry experience with companies including Sofitel Wanda Beijing, Anantara Spa in the Maldives and Doha, and InterContinental Asiana in Saigon, Aye Mon brings invaluable experience to her new position.

“Aye Mon’s experience in the design of pre-opening wellness concepts at high-end luxury spas will lead us to innovative and exciting new spa concepts unique to each of our new properties,” said Atilla Erda, chief operating officer of Fusion.

With differing spa journeys for each of the group’s four wellness brands, Fusion Suites, Resorts, Retreats and Originals, Aye Mon will be drawing on her experiences to ensure Fusion’s team of therapists stay abreast of global trends. Under her guidance, Fusion will continue to deliver consistent quality, premium treatments across all spas.

“We will be working over the coming months to ensure our spa-inclusive concept continues to deliver wellness experiences like no other,” said Aye Mon. “Our exciting new programmes build on the individuality of each of our hotel locations.”

Fusion is moving towards an average of 30,000 spa treatments per month in their current portfolio. This includes resorts in Da Nang, Hue, Phu Quoc and Cam Ranh, and hotels in Da Nang and Saigon. In the next few years they will open resorts in Hoi An, Vung Tau, Quy Nhon, and Quang Binh.

VAN BAY, Vietnam – August 22, 2019 – Six Senses Spa Ninh Van Bay is delighted to unveil a refreshed look after a recent extensive refurbishment. The spa enhancements include six renovated treatment rooms as well as a brand new state-of-the-art fitness center located on top of the spa with a panoramic view of the bay, a tranquil meditation sala and an indoor flying yoga studio. Surrounded by lush tropical jungle and cascading streams, the renovated treatment rooms now provide bright and airy spaces bathed in natural light.

The new indoor flying yoga studio enhances the resort’s yoga offering and this particular practice is ideal for relieving age-related aches and pains, it helps fine-tune the body’s balance and alignment, releases ‘happy hormones’, improves flexibility and offers a unique sensation of flying. The new meditation sala is beautifully surrounded by nature and provides a real sanctuary to calm the mind and meditate peacefully.

The spa recently welcomed a visiting practitioner, Lama Sherab from Bhutan who led guided meditations and gave spiritual talks for the guests. In addition, the spa will offer interactive workshops at the Alchemy Bar so guests can learn to blend local ingredients and create scrubs, masks and wraps which will be used in their treatments. For those who want to go deeper and understand more about their well-being, the Six Senses Wellness Screening provides the latest intel on what’s going on inside them.

Performed by a resident wellness expert and qualified naturopathic doctor, the screening analyzes key physiological biomarkers of health, including body composition, metabolism, oxygen distribution, heart function, circulation and stress parameters. The results are used to prepare a personalized wellness program specific to each individual’s needs.

There is also a wide range of multi-day holistic wellness programs from three to seven days which address the most common modern concerns. For example, the Sleep program helps guests rest the mind and rejuvenate the body by combining practical advice from Six Senses Sleep Doctor with the many benefits of yoga nidra and meditation, relaxing treatments, wellness therapies and low intensity training. The spa’s Detox program uses the non-invasive techniques of yogic cleanse to help the body detox in a safe and controlled manner in combination with cleansing therapies and sensible eating of whole foods. Improved fitness levels, toned body, higher energy levels and better mood are some of the benefits guests can enjoy when participating in the Fitness program which focuses on movement, high and low intensity training and nurturing treatments.

Each of these programs starts with a wellness screening and includes personalized treatments, activities and advice on foods to favor and avoid during the stay and beyond. “The enhancements within the Six Senses Spa village are in line with the company’s values,” explained Ateeb Shrestha, general manager of Six Senses Ninh Van Bay. “It is about reconnecting the body and mind and rediscovering balance – a process that is accelerated by the incredible natural surrounds of Ninh Van Bay.” Holistic wellness programs start from USD 650 for one guest and USD 910 for two guests sharing a villa. THE WESTIN MALDIVES MIRIANDHOO RESORT OFFERS ULTIMATE WELLNESS ON THE TROPICAL ARCHIPELAGO OASIS

Nestled on a beautiful coral island in the Baa Atoll, a designated UNESCO Biosphere Reserve site, guests of The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort experience a tranquil escape with uninterrupted ocean and pristine turquoise lagoon views, perfect for indulging in the resort’s Ultimate Wellness program, designed to recharge the batteries and restore balance in body and mind.

The idyllic resort features Westin’s signature branded spa concept, the Heavenly Spa by Westin™. The design of the Spa area exudes an intimate and serene ambience that allows guests to reflect on their destination, including a spacious treatment suite for two with a Jacuzzi and panoramic ocean views and the latest in beauty treatments. Guests can stay active with the 24-hour WestinWORKOUT® Fitness Studio sprawled across two levels that features weight machines, free weights, and cardio equipment that faces personal flat-screen televisions; and outdoor pool and recreation ground with tennis, volleyball, basketball options.

“With the Westin brand’s focus on wellness, we trust that every guest will feel exceptionally relaxed, refreshed and rejuvenated during and after their stays,” said Brendan Corcoran, General Manager at The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort. “We look forward to welcoming our guests to discover the charm of the Maldives while at the same time enjoy the unparalleled level of service.”

Designed to cater to the way modern families travel, the Westin Family Kids Club® offers reimagined family experiences that are tied back to the brand’s wellness positioning for young guests between the ages of 4–12 years. Some of the activities includes nature walks, family-style runs and water activities. The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort is also well-equipped to play host to distinguished ceremonies or vows renewal with its multifunctional event spaces.

Led by award-winning Milan-based architects PEIA Associati, the resort’s design takes inspiration from the ocean with a visionary approach towards environmental sustainability. All elements of the resort’s design take inspiration from the environment from the use of natural materials, such as unique shells to the movement and flow of marine life including sea turtles and whale sharks, providing guests with a link to the region’s exceptional enchantment. An aerial view of The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort reveals an outline in the shape of a fish, a distinctive reflection of the beauty of surrounding marine life; while the arrival jetty is structured to resemble clamshells and the oceans’ waves.

The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort features 70 villas and suites, 41 on island and 29 overwater. Each villa is shaped with an eco-friendly double roofing to create the perfect natural ventilation. Outdoor rainforest showers are a distinctive feature. Poised over the sea on stilts and with an area of almost 200 square meters each, the overwater suites are among the largest a resort has to offer in the Baa Atoll region.

The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort presents three unique dining experiences. The Pearl is the resort’s specialty restaurant and is ideal for indulging in exquisite Japanese cuisine with exceptional ocean views. The restaurant offers a refined Japanese menu with a focus on seafood and fresh local ingredients. The all-day dining experience at Island Kitchen stays true to the Westin brand’s Eat Well brand pillar through a balanced menu combining Chinese, Indian and Maldivian fare. At Hawker, guests can sample authentic Asian street food with a live kitchen in a casual bustling atmosphere. Adjacent to the Library and overlooking the azure blue Indian Ocean, Sunset Bar is a relaxed lounge serving tapas and imaginative cocktails.

Directly from the beach, guests can explore the house reef with colorful corals and be surrounded by thousands of tropical fish. Miriandhoo is a Turtle sanctuary, and guests can easily and often see turtles nesting along the white beaches. Reef sharks, lionfish, manta rays and often whale sharks all reside in the Baa Atoll. The stunning experience of the underwater world can be explored while snorkeling, diving, fishing and parasailing.

Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas Partners with Timeshifter

New Jet Lag App Transforms Your Travel

BANGKOK - June 2018 - Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas has partnered with Timeshifter to improve the guests' traveling experience whether they are heading away on business or pleasure. Guests booking directly with Six Senses will get access to the Timeshifter jet lag app which is developed with Harvard Medical School Associate Professor Steven Lockley, Ph.D. and based on the latest research in sleep and circadian neuroscience. What could be better than quickly adapting to a new time zone and eliminating jet lag, and enjoying high energy levels from the moment you land?

Timeshifter, which named Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas their official hotel partner, offers highly personalized jet lag plans based on the traveler's sleep pattern, chronotype, flight plan, and optional preferences such as pre-travel adjustment or the use of melatonin for an even faster adaptation. Timeshifter incorporates a real world "practicality" filter, ensuring that the advice is realistic and easy to follow; there is also a unique Quick Turnaround feature for business travelers who want to be at their best during short business trips that are not long enough to allow full adjustment. A notification system provides simple yet powerful advice, even while in flight. Using Timeshifter is a straightforward and empowering experience, and requires no special equipment.

The algorithm behind the new Timeshifter app is already helping astronauts, elite athletes, and top CEOs eliminate jet lag, and perform at their very best. Now, this much-needed tool is available for everyone.

"We all love to feel good when traveling on business or pleasure, but when flying long distances jet lag can cause stress, fatigue, moodiness and restless nights. We're delighted to partner with Timeshifter and to provide our guests with a state-of-the-art tool so they can get the most out of their time when staying with Six Senses and to be their best after they arrive back home," said Neil Jacobs, chief executive officer of Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas.

Jet lag is caused when the sleep-wake and light-dark cycle shift too quickly for the 24-hour circadian clock in the brain to adapt. Timeshifter not only provides advice to alleviate the disruptive symptoms of jet lag such as insomnia and sleepiness, but addresses the underlying circadian disruption by rapidly resynchronizing the circadian clock to the new time zone and reducing the negative impact of jet lag on other brain and body functions.

"The partnership between Six Senses and Timeshifter is showing what the future of luxury travel can be. By combining the Six Senses Integrated Wellness experience with the Timeshifter jet lag app, based on the latest in sleep and circadian neuroscience, guests will enjoy their vacations even more and perform at their very best on business trips," said Mickey Beyer-Clausen, CEO of Timeshifter.

Guests who book a stay through SixSenses.com, via email or phone will be given a special code in their reservation confirmation so they can unlock a complimentary jet lag plan inside the Timeshifter iOS or Android app.

The brand's overarching philosophy, Six Senses Integrated Wellness, provides the best base possible to help guest flourish, in tune with their natural flow. From a wide range of signature massages to high-tech science and high-touch therapies. From the food guests eat to the way they sleep and the experts they meet. Wellness is integrated into the whole guest experience, and becomes a joyful way of life. And those guests who wish to go further, can take the non-invasive wellness screening and let Six Senses experts assess their health and lifestyle and recommend a personalized program in steps that they feel comfortable with.
